Donald Ray Newland, 79, of Fulton went to his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 19, 2017.

He was born on July 16, 1937 in Cantril, Iowa to the late Jesse Tole Newland and Hattie Florence (Skelton) Newland.

Donald married Linda Cheney on January 13, 1994.  She survives at their home.

Donald proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1954 until 1957.  Donald worked in construction and farming.  He retired from the City of Fulton where he worked for the Street Department, Waste Water Treatment Plant and Marshalling at Tanglewood Golf Course.

Donald had many interests including golfing, motorcycles, and taking trips down the Mississippi River to New Orleans with his friends. He loved to watch old movies starring John Wayne, Kirk Douglas and Clint Eastwood.  Donald had a talent for making jewelry and gave most of it away to his wife and family.  He had quick sense of humor and could tell a joke in a minute.  Donald was an avid golfer and could be found on the course unless it was raining or snowing.

On October 26, 2009, Donald received an LVAD, a heart pump which extended his life and allowed him to spend more time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda; children, Etta Farmer of Fulton, Edward Newland of Fulton, John Dennis Newland of Fulton, Jessica Hooks (Thomas) of Auxvasse, Chris Newland of Atlanta, Ga.; step-son, Shawn Melton of Bonne Terre; brother, Charles Newland (Sue) of Auxvasse; sister, Dorothy Craighead (Scott) of Fulton; eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by brother, Dennis Newland; grandson, Eric Wilson; and great-granddaughter, Shelby Nevels.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Mike Crowson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the funeral home.  Entombment with Military Honors will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Memorial donations are suggested to Barnes Jewish Hospital Heart Transplant, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251.
