Obituary

Ire James O’Neal, 91, of Fulton passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Harry S. Truman Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

He was born on January 2, 1926 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of the late Charlie O’Neal and the late Rose (Rembert) O’Neal.

On April 2, 1952, Ire was united in marriage to Lois Dean (Tate) O’Neal.  She preceded him in death on September 14, 2005.

Ire proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII.  He retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation where he worked as a Maintenance Equipment Operator. He enjoyed taking road trips, fishing and camping, and spending time with his dog, Benji.  Ire took pride in his yard and could often be found mowing or working in his garden. 

His passing will leave an unfillable void in the lives of his family including sons, Terry O’Neal (Edna) of Williamsburg, and Glen Dillon (Shirley) of Fulton; daughters Brenda Trabue (Mark) of New Bloomfield, and Billie Jean Williams of Columbia; daughter-in-law, Sonya O’Neal of Mokane; sisters, Genevieve Laurie of New Bloomfield, and Hazel Sieler (Herb) of North Dakota; seventeen grandchildren; forty-eight great grandchildren; thirty-six great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents and wife, Ire was preceded in death by son, Roger Dale O’Neal; brothers, Charles, Preston and Willard O’Neal; and sisters, Irene Weatherby and Helen Peery.

Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 16, 2017 at First Assembly of God Church in Fulton with Reverend Mike Haldeman officiating.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 until the time of service at the church.  Private entombment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Memorial donations are suggested to Maupin Funeral Home for the O’Neal family, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251.

Rest in peace, Uncle Ire! Please give hugs and my love to those who have left this earth before you. My thoughts and prayers are with each of my family members as they endure yet another loss so close to them.

Terry and Brenda, know that I love you both and lift you up for the strength and wisdom that will be necessary throughout this grievous time.

May the peace of God rule in the hearts of all touched by this loss. Love you all very much!

Ire's family, I will always remember your Dad and Mom being so good to my Gramme, Mae Mahoney. She so enjoyed when they would visit and she thought so much of them both. They were good, good folks. Sad for you all, it has been a tough time lately for your family. God's peace be on you all.
